What is FSSAI?

FSSAI - Food Safety and Standards Authority of India is a governing body for guidelines and regulations relating to the food industry. The registration and licensing of food business in India is performed under the rules prescribed by the Food Safety and Standards Regulations 2011.

What is FSSAI Registration?

Food business operators engaged in manufacturing, processing, storage, distribution and sale of food products must compulsorily obtain FSSAI Registration or License. The size and nature the business determines whether an FSSAI registration or FSSAI License is required. It is a unique 14-digit number which is printed on all the food packages. This registration is important to maintain quality of edible products.

What are the types of FSSAI Registrations?

Documents Required

• Passport size photographs
• ID Proof- Aadhaar Card Voter’s ID, PAN Card
• Proof of Possession of Premises
• Declaration Form
• Source of Procurement (wherever applicable)

Process

• Application with all relevant details to be filed.
• Once the application is filed, the Registering Authority can accept or reject the registration. The reasons have to be recorded in writing within sevendays of receipt of the application.
•  If the proposal is granted, the food business operator may start the business or the Registering Authority might issue notice for inspection.(Inspection will need to be ordered within seven days)
•  If the process of inspection is granted, then the inspection will be done within 30 days.
• If the process is completed successfully, the registration can be taken forward, and the applicant may commence the operations.
